The Netherlands looks abroad for brilliant technical experts

According to an article in De Volkskrant, a Dutch newspaper, the Netherlands is in need of technical experts, even in this time of economic crisis. This is why the Netherlands is actively looking for students in other countries to come to study and work in this country.

Almost 40% of foreign students in the Netherlands are originally from countries outside the EU. Some universities like TU Eindhoven give their foreign students job guarantees. This way, they can recruit people who wish to stay and work in the Netherlands after finishing their studies.
Although the selection of foreign talents has already started, there are still some problems with the financing of their studies and accommodation (tuition fees and living costs). From the 1st January 2009, non-EU students have to finance their own studies. Han Dommers Head of the Promotion department of Nuffic was quoted in the newspaper: “France, Germany and Great Britain invest more in the field of education than the Netherlands. That is why we also attempt to persuade Dutch companies to support scholarships for foreign students. This will help them attract and to keep graduates for their companies for some years”. On an annual basis, 250 foreign students have the opportunity to study in the Netherlands with the so-called ‘toptalentbeurs’ (grant for the highly talented) programme, but that, of course, is a select group, belonging to the absolute top.Source: De Volkskrant

Hà Lan tìm kiếm những chuyên gia kỹ thuật nước ngoài xuất sắc
Theo tờ De Volkskrant của Hà Lan, đất nước này đang rất cần những chuyên gia kỹ thuật, ngay cả trong thời kỳ khủng hoảng kinh tế như hiện nay. Đó là lý do vì sao Hà Lan đang tích cực tìm kiếm những sinh viên nước ngoài đến học tập và làm việc ở Hà Lan.
Gần 40% sinh viên nước ngoài đang học Hà Lan đến từ các nước ngoài Liên minh Châu Âu. Một số trường đại học như TU Eindhoven còn đảm bảo việc làm cho sinh viên nước ngoài. Bằng cách này, các trường có thể tuyển dụng được những sinh viên tốt nghiệp có nguyện vọng ở lại và làm việc tại Hà Lan.
Mặc dù việc tuyển chọn những nhân tài từ nước ngoài đã được tiến hành nhưng vẫn còn tồn tại những vấn đề về tiền tài trợ cho việc học tập nghiên cứu và chỗ ăn ở (bao gồm học phí và chi phí sinh hoạt). Từ ngày 01/01/2009, những sinh viên đến từ các nước ngoài Liên minh Châu Âu phải tự trang trải cho việc học tập của mình. Ông Han Dommers - trưởng phòng Quảng bá của Nuffic cho biết “Pháp, Đức và Anh đầu tư vào lĩnh vực giáo dục nhiều hơn rất nhiều so với Hà Lan. Đó là lý do vì sao chúng tôi cũng thu hút những doanh nghiệp Hà Lan tài trợ các suất học bổng cho sinh viên nước ngoài. Cách làm này giúp các công ty giữ được những sinh viên tốt nghiệp ở lại làm việc cho mình một thời gian sau đó.” Mỗi năm sẽ có 250 sinh viên nước ngoài có cơ hội được học tập ở Hà Lan theo chương trình mang tên ‘toptalentbeurs’ (tạm dịch: “học bổng cho những sinh viên ưu tú”) nhưng tất nhiên chỉ những sinh viên thực sự giỏi mới được tuyển chọn.
