Tra Vinh 100 scholarships
Jul 27, 2011
The Tra Vinh scholarship provides lecturers and provincial officials of Tra Vinh with the opportunity to study a Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees abroad. The scholarships are funded by the Tra Vinh province.
The Tra Vinh 100 programme has the following funds available for a student:
- 750 Euro per month living costs, including insurances
- a maximum of 10000 Euro per year for tuition fees.
The partner institute for this scholarship is the Tra Vinh community college. The rector of the community college Mr. Pham Tiet Khanh has the authority to decide where applicants from his institute are sent and this simplifies the procedures considerably.
The level of English in Tra Vinh’s province is a major obstacle for students who wish to be admitted to Dutch institutions. A solution would be to send Dutch students majoring in English to Tra Vinh to practice their skills and teach English to Vietnamese applicants. The Tra Vinh community college will sponsor Dutch students with USD 100 a month. The visiting students will also be able to fund their time in Vietnam by teaching English at Tra Vinh English centers for about USD 10 for an hour of teaching.
Dutch institutes are highly competitive in the following sectors: flood management and delta technology; agriculture/ fisheries (food safety and hygiene, research on the environmental and socio-economic impact of agricultural activities); the financial sector; shipbuilding; urban planning (lowland and flood prone areas); logistics and distribution; tourism and culture; design, fashion and architecture; music technology, heritage conservation and healthcare. Accordingly scholarships should be sought after in these areas.
In addition, to increase the chances of attracting scholarship holders to the Netherlands, Nuffic Neso believes that The Netherlands could tap in to the the Tra Vinh 100 programme in several forms:
- Provide funds to Tra Vinh 100 students who wish to study Master’s and PhD programmes in the Netherlands.
- Offer a reduction in tuition fees for Tra Vinh 100 students who wish to study in the Netherlands. Presently tuition fees are too high, compared even to the US whose institutes have lowered their fees to accommodate the limited financial resources of these provinces.
- Provide financial assistance to develop the English skills of Tra Vinh 100 students who wish to study in the Netherlands.
- Simplify and speed up admission process at Dutch institutes.
- Develop a pro-active and concerted effort of various Dutch stakeholders (business, Consulate General, Nuffic Neso, Dutch higher education institutes).
