Interviews with Vietnamese key stakeholders
Nuffic Neso Vietnam aims to provide up to date market information to Dutch Higher Education Institutes (DHEIs). Our office uses secondary sources such as research reports and international and Vietnamese media to create a balanced view on the market. In addition our office also has commenced conducting interviews with Vietnamese key stakeholders in the field of education. It is our aim to add more interviews to this list whenever we visit universities and ministries in Vietnam.
Below you will find a list of interviews with links to the full conversations. We hope that this information will prove useful.
Interview with Le Quang Minh, vice director of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City (Ho Chi Minh City October 2009)
“Could you share your thoughts on the coming trends of higher education in Vietnam and the strategies to cater to the social and economic situation in Vietnam?"
"In fact in line with the strategy for Vietnamese higher education, the MoET will divide universities into two types. 75% of the universities will become universities of applied sciences similar to universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands and the 25% remaining universities will become research universities. That is biggest trend. Another trend is that the Ministry encourages universities to contact large international universities to further their own development.” complete text
Interview Le Viet Dung, vice rector of Can Tho University (Can Tho September 2009)
“What advice would you give Dutch higher education institutes who wish to enter the Vietnamese market?"
"This is a difficult question. I could write a PhD thesis about this subject. Our first priority is capacity building, the training of human resources. As I said before, we have as many as 120 Dutch alumni working at our institute. You do not have to explain the Netherlands to any of them anymore and many of them try to stimulate their students to study in the Netherlands. We have a scholarship programme called Mekong 1000 which is funded by provinces including and surrounding Can Tho. [From the 150 candidates who went abroad,] Only 10 students have studied the Netherlands while the majority of our staff is positively biased towards the Netherlands. It provides staff with the opportunity to study abroad.” complete text
Interview with professor Bui Van Ga, president of Da Nang University (Da Nang September 2009)
“Currently we have several 2+2 programmes with foreign institutes such as the US, France, Japan and China. For example when we work with a Dutch university we would also train the student for some time in basic knowledge here and send him or her abroad to further deepen their knowledge.” complete text
